I’m Maria de la Iglesia, a photographer and picture editor working between the UK and Spain.
I’ve worked with pictures for more than seventeen years, much of it on newspaper and magazine picture desks, including The Telegraph, The Times and Reuters. Editing means looking at hundreds of photographs and deciding why one frame is worth keeping. I photograph in much the same way.
I photograph interiors and architecture, particularly homes and older buildings that have been adapted rather than stripped of their history. I’m interested in what has been retained, how materials age, where the light falls and how a room relates to what is outside it.
That often means looking at the point where architecture and planting meet: a courtyard, a glasshouse, a wall taken over by plants, a window opening on to a garden. The same interest takes me into botanical gardens and buildings designed around plants, light and landscape.
I work with architects, interior designers, property companies, editorial teams and independent businesses, producing photographs for editorial, websites, press and portfolios.
Based in Suffolk, working across the UK and Spain.
